The general manager of the New York Yankees, Brian Cashman, spoke for the first time this Tuesday after finishing the 2023 Major League season, ensuring that the team is strong and defended them from the criticism that some journalists may have pointed out.
Speaking at a press conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, Cashman indicated that they are proud of the team they manage and that they hope to soon agree with new reinforcements.
“I think we’re pretty good, personally, and I’m proud of our people,” said the Mules manager.
However, although he defended his position as general manager, he also talked about the failures in the past and how he has not correctly moved pieces like Joey Gallo and Sonny Gray.
“Since Joey Gallo left us, who picked him up? Two playoff teams. “Sonny Gray is currently in the running for a Cy Young Award,” he said of both of their departures.
He later commented that although many believe that the Yankees are guided by statistics and analysis to plan their next campaign and take stock of 2023, that information is false.
“No one is doing deep dives, they are just talking nonsense and accusing us of being analytically driven. To say that we are guided by analysis as a driving force is a lie,” she indicated.
Finally, in addition to Cashman, the owner of the Yankees, Hal Steinbrenner, also spoke, saying that he plans to make big changes for the coming season although he did not specify or delve into any in particular.
The Yankees hope in 2024 to be able to overcome the failure that the 2023 Major League season represented, where they finished in fourth place in the American League East Division with a record of 82 wins and 80 losses.
