A man from North Carolina decided to try his luck at a new lottery game and thanks to that, the man hit the jackpot and won a considerable amount of money.

The player, named Johnny McCurry of Burnsville, purchased a $5 scratch-off ticket, North Carolina Education Lottery officials said Monday.

It turned out that the man won the first jackpot of $150,000 in the new game, called Power Cashword.

McCurry purchased his winning ticket at a gas station called Southeast Energy of Yancey County, located on US 19 East Bypass in the city of Burnsville.

On Monday, McCurry went to the state lottery headquarters to collect his prize and, after paying the required taxes, ended up walking away with $106,876.

The Power Cashword game was released last October offering six jackpot prizes of $150,000.

There are still five $150,000 prizes that no one has won.

Yancey County has received $6.69 million in state grants to help schools.
