After lifting the Conference League with Roma, Portuguese coach José Mourinho brought Paulo Dybala to the team to reinforce the Italian team’s forward line. That same season, the Argentine stood out again in Serie A, after performing poorly at Juventus.
So much so, that his good moment earned him a call-up with Argentina for the World Cup. Which ended up winning in Qatar and scoring one of the penalties in the grand final against France.
Recently in a talk with the Argentine journalist Gastón Edul, the Roma player revealed the great affection that Mourinho has for him and his weakness for Argentine players, since he has trained several of them and they have always performed as he expects.
“He loves Argentines. He always spoke very well to me about Fideo (Ángel Di María), about Leo too. He always speaks well of Argentines. Everyone has given in and given him something more on his team. Gio (Giovani Lo Celso), was also with Coco (Erik Lamela), with (Juan) Foyth. He always speaks very well about everyone,” stated the Córdoban attacker.
Mou’s career as a head coach began in 2000 with Benfica. Since then Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid and Manchester United have been the most prominent clubs where he has been. In most of them he had at least one Argentine, so his connection with the players of this nationality goes back several years.
Dybala says that he called Mou first than his mother after winning the World Cup
On December 18 in Lusail, Qatar, the Argentine team was proclaimed world champion. In the talk with Edul, Dybala says that the first person he called after becoming World Cup champion was his coach José Mourinho.
“When the game ended, we were doing doping and I didn’t have my cell phone. When I got to the locker room, I grabbed the phone to talk to my family and I had like five missed calls from Mou. “I called him first than my mother. When I called him, he was happy with life, commented the 30-year-old player.
