Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has taken little time to respond to former FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué for his controversial statements about the unattractive game of the ‘Merengue’ team and the fact that this causes no one to remember the last Champions League that they won.
After having defeated Sporting Braga 3-0 and achieving a mathematical pass to the round of 16 of this Champions League, Ancelotti spoke to the media and sent a message to the former player and now president of the Kings League.
“Piqué lives in his world, which is not the world of Real Madrid fans. I can assure you that there will be no Madrid fan who can forget the fourteenth. He will be remembered for a lifetime,” said the Italian coach.
Piqué started the controversy
Gerard Piqué had criticized the ‘White’ team this Wednesday for their way of playing the Champions League, letting it be known that it was unattractive for football lovers. “Madrid’s last Champions League was a miracle and no one remembers it, they were not superior in any tie, and for them it was just one more,” he said.
“It’s more of the same, the same as always, with little they get through the games and they will compete for everything in the end. “It is a team that does not transmit, but that will be there and will reach the decisive moment of the Champions League,” he stressed.
Real Madrid made it to the round of 16
Regarding the performance this season and the qualification to the round of 16, the coach stated that “Real Madrid has done better than others in this competition. We are very happy. “We are not going to rest in the rest of the games because for us all the games have the same demands.”
On the other hand, Ancelotti was asked about the hug between him and the Brazilian Rodrygo, who scored again after a long time. “Forwards have moments that score and others that cost them more. What you can do is support them so they are calm. Players with the quality of Vinícius or ‘Rodry’ will sooner or later score. It’s just a matter of time”.
Regarding the questions related to Real Madrid’s supposed rejection of signing Kylian Mbappé, he let it be known that a topic that does not interest him: “I’m not going to answer,” he said.
Meanwhile, he was asked about his evaluation of the work done by Brahim Díaz, who perfectly covered the loss of Jude Bellingham due to injury. “I have been unfair to him, but Bellingham has played in his optimal position.”
“It is a special competition for us and all the games in this competition are special,” he said.
