In recent years Netflix had been the number one streaming platform in the world, but little by little it has been losing place due to the arrival of other large companies such as HBO, Prime Video or Apple TV.
That is why the company born in Scotts Valley seeks to reform and develop in other markets to once again position itself as the king of streaming. And it would be targeting the sports market to expand its catalog and gain more customers.
In accordance with Wall Street Journal, the red letter platform would be showing interest in broadcasting boxing fights in the near future. Which would be the first step in adding live sports content for its new segment.
Even Netflix already has its first test with this type of content, since in just a few days there will be the launch of “The Netflix Cup”, a golf tournament that will feature the participation of F1 drivers who appear in the series Drive to Survive and professional golfers.
Jake Paul would be the face of Netflix to venture into boxing
According to the report, Netflix would be thinking about Jake Paul to be the face of this new content on the platform. Paul is an influencer with millions of followers who entered the world of boxing a couple of years ago. He is currently one of the boxers who generates the most audience in his fights.
The relationship between Paul and the Netflix company seems to be quite good. Even a few months ago it premiered on the platform“Uncovered: Jake Paul, the Problem Boy”a documentary that focuses on the life of the now boxer, from his beginnings as a television star, to his unexpected arrival in boxing.
Canelo could also reach Netflix
With Netflix’s foray into the world of boxing, several alternatives are opening up due to the current context of television networks. Well, the American channel Showtime will stop broadcasting boxing starting in 2024 and since the promoter PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) does not currently have a channel or streaming to show its fights, Netflix could appear as an option for broadcasts.
Taking into account that PBC has among its roster of boxers none other than Saúl Álvarez, current undisputed world champion in super middleweight, the Mexican could be a key piece for Netflix to become even more interested in acquiring this type of content for its platform. . Well, Canelo Álvarez is currently the boxer who generates the most money in his fights.
