Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah, declared that he does not intend to vote for former President Donald Trump in the 2024 elections. And he added that he does not believe he will vote for Vivek Ramaswamy either.
“Any. You know, I’d be happy to support pretty much any of the Republicans” other than Trump, Romney responded in a recent interview with Norah O’Donnell of “Person to Person” when asked which candidates he “liked” in the Party. Republican.
And he added: “Maybe not Vivek.”
He assured that “the others who are running are acceptable to me and I would be happy to vote for them.” The rest of the Republican candidates are Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; former US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley; and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
In response to a tweet with the video of the interview, Vivek Ramaswamy said on his X account, formerly called Twitter: “Not surprising.”
“Charming” Biden
Romney, smiling, The Messenger reported, said he would also be “happy” to support “a number of” Democrats who have entered the 2024 presidential race. However, the outlet claims he did not name names.
“In my opinion, he would be an improvement over Donald Trump and maybe even Joe Biden,” said the former 2012 Republican presidential candidate.
The Utah senator said he finds President Biden “charming” and “attractive” in the “places” where they agree and in “most places” where he disagrees with the president.
However, he added that he believes Biden has made some “terrible” decisions, although he did not specify which ones.
Declared anti-Trump
Romney, who announced in the middle of this year that he will not seek re-election as a senator, is a confessed anti-Trump. In fact, in 2020 he did not vote for the former president and was one of those who voted in favor of Trump’s impeachment.
In an op-ed published in The Atlantic last year, Romney warned of the danger of former President Trump’s eventual return to the White House.
“The return of Donald Trump would fuel the disease, likely making it incurable,” the former Republican presidential candidate wrote at the time.
“A classic example of denial comes from Donald Trump: ‘I won in a landslide,’” Romney said of Trump’s claims about his 2020 “win.”
“Maybe this is a branch of the same delusion that leads people to put money into slot machines: because I really want to win, I believe I will win,” Romney’s analogy goes.
