American boxer Jermall Charlo had a very positive night this weekend by achieving an important victory by unanimous decision over José Benavídez (older brother of David Benavídez) and thus being able to triumphantly return to the ring after two years of absence.
This fact and the good performance he showed in the ring opens up the possibility of new confrontations that allow him to place himself at the top of the sport by being able to look for much more stellar fights on the international scene; An example of this was the challenge he threw at Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez after being declared the winner of the fight.
What happens is that Charlo decided to challenge the undisputed super middleweight champion as a gesture to try to avenge the defeat that his brother Jermell Charlo suffered against the man from Guadalajara on September 30, a confrontation in which Canelo achieved a resounding victory against US.
“Pick me (Álvarez)… I know they are going to say that he already fought my twin brother (Jermell), but I will be a totally different twin when I face him. I am not criticizing anything my brother did, he dared to want to be great, he went up two divisions to fight Canelo,” Charlo expressed in his statements.
The American was not at all happy with the result recorded against his brother at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the 168-pound category, so he considered that he has all the qualities to be able to defeat Canelo Álvarez and thus win the belts.
Charlo also spoke about how important the victory over José Benavídez is for him, because he considered him a strong opponent and considered that this puts him one step closer to his aspirations.
“Canelo is on a totally different level than Benavidez. That fight (with Canelo) would have made me stand up. “I didn’t feel particularly motivated by this fight,” the American concluded.
