The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said he was horrified, like first lady Jill Biden, by the shooting attack against three students of Palestinian origin last Saturday in Burlington, in the state of Vermont.

“Jill and I were horrified to learn that three college students of Palestinian descent, two of whom are American citizens, were shot Saturday in Burlington,” the president said, according to a White House statement.

“They were simply spending Thanksgiving gathering with family and loved ones,” he added.

Joe Biden expressed that he joins Americans across the country in “praying for the complete recovery” of the injured and that he sends his thoughts to the families. He stressed that while he waits for more information about what happened, he is clear that there is “absolutely no place” for violence in the United States.

“No person should have to worry about being shot while going about their daily activities. And too many Americans know a family member injured or killed as a result of gun violence. We cannot and will not accept that,” she said.

“They should be back at school.”

Karine Jean-Pierre, White House spokesperson, assured this Monday that the president is closely following the course of the investigation and regretted that the attack took place just when many American families were celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday.

“Those students should be back in school with their peers, and not in a hospital room,” the spokeswoman said.

Burlington police arrested a suspect in the attack, whom they identified as Jason Eaton, 48, the Efe news agency published. According to authorities, two of the young people were injured in the torso and one in the lower extremities.

Two of the victims are stable and one was seriously injured.

Police, who did not identify the victims, said they are all in their 20s and were visiting the family of one of them for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Joe Biden also reported that he spoke with Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger to offer his support and thanked the Burlington Police Department, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other entities in charge of doing so. enforce the law, for their quick work to identify and arrest a suspect.

“Our administration will provide all additional federal resources necessary to assist in the investigation,” the US president guaranteed.
