Americans for Prosperity Action, a political organization founded by billionaire Charles Koch, announced this Tuesday its support for Nikki Haley’s 2024 presidential candidacy.
The organization made its decision public through a memo addressed to grassroots activists through the network’s advocacy arm.
“When we announced our decision to participate in our first Republican presidential primary, we made it clear that we would be looking for a candidate who could turn the page on our political dysfunction and win. “It is clear that the candidate is Nikki Haley,” Emily Seidel, senior advisor at AFP Action, said in a statement.
According to Seidel, Haley “represents a new generation of leadership and offers a bold, positive vision for our future.” She asserted that AFP Action “is proud” to support her and pledged to do “everything we can to help make her the next president of the United States.”
In this way, the former United States ambassador to the UN ensures important financial support. The Kochs raised $70 million this year, according to their latest filing. Additionally, the group has spent about $4 million on ads so far this cycle, according to AdImpact tracking.
“Republicans have been nominating bad candidates who go against the founding principles of America. And voters are rejecting them,” the organization wrote. They added that Democrats are responding to the weakness of the Republican Party by pushing “extreme” policies.
Turn the page
In its memo, the organization not only took aim at former President Trump, but also at the current president, Joe Biden.
“As many of you know, AFP Action has never participated in a presidential election before, but as we said in February, to write a new chapter for our country, we must turn the page on the past. “Donald Trump and Joe Biden will only further perpetuate the downward spiral in the country’s politics,” they said.
Haley, they said, has a chance to convince moderate voters whom Trump “has no chance” of winning.
This is not the first time that the political organization has targeted former President Trump. They had previously run ads attacking Trump as a 2024 candidate.
An ad published in June referred to Trump as “Biden’s secret weapon.” “It’s easy to see why Democrats want Trump,” the ad added. “It’s Biden’s ticket to re-election.”
Haley thanks
“I am honored to have the support of Americans for Prosperity Action, including its millions of grassroots members across the country,” Haley said in a statement after the announcement.
He added: “AFP Action members know there is too much at stake in these elections to sit on the sidelines. It is a choice between freedom and socialism, individual freedom and big government, fiscal responsibility and spiraling debt. “We have a country to save and I am grateful to have AFP Action by our side.”
The significant financial support comes at an important time for Haley, as many polls already place her in second place in the Republican presidential race, although far behind former President Trump.
