Strategist Jeaustin Campos, currently at Herediano and with a past at Saprissa in Costa Rica, was suspended this Monday by the Ethics Committee of the Costa Rican Football Federation for uttering racist insults when he was managing the Jamaican Javon East.
In a text published by the Federation on social networks, it is explained how Campos broke the statutes of the Code of Ethics, which is why it suspended the coach for at least six months, in addition to imposing a financial penalty of $5,000 dollars.
“Mr. Jeaustin Campos Madriz is declared responsible for the facts alleged in this procedure and with this, having violated article 23 and article 24 of the Code of Ethics of the Costa Rican Football Federation, for which he is sanctioned with the prohibition of participate in any activity related to football for a period of 6 months and a financial fine equivalent to the sum of $5,000,” the resolution indicates.
The Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) explained in a statement that the parties have already been notified and that the resolution is not yet final, since the coach can challenge it according to the official regulations of the FCRF and FIFA.
Campos is the current coach of Herediano, a team that starting next weekend will play the semifinals of the Costa Rican tournament against Alajuelense.
The case dates back to last March, when Jamaican soccer player Javon East reported having received racist insults from Campos, who at that time was his coach at Saprissa, the most successful soccer club in Costa Rica and where Campos won six titles in total (2007, 2007, 2008, 2008, 2014 and 2022).
After the situation, on March 28, Saprissa decided to dismiss Campos when the board stated that it would not tolerate events of this type.
“We take it very seriously when a complaint arises. The responsibility of the club and football must precisely be to promote a world free of discrimination, including racial discrimination. Today we made the decision to dismiss our technical director, since there are issues within this vision that transcend sports,” said the president of Saprissa, Juan Carlos Rojas, on March 28.
Jamaican international Javon East went to the Association of Professional Players (Asojupro) of Costa Rica to present his case, and the association sent a letter to the Saprissa Board of Directors on March 27 denouncing the situation.
The insults occurred during training in front of a group of Saprissa players.
