The Communications Office of the Government of Gaza, a strip controlled by the Hamas terrorist group, reported this Tuesday the discovery in the last hours of 160 Palestinian bodies under the rubble.
“Civil Defense teams continue to recover dozens of dead people from under the rubble and from the streets and highways using manual and primitive methods, since in the last few hours 160 dead people have been recovered,” the Gazan government said in a statement, quoted by the Efe news agency.
This information was known during the fifth day of the truce with Israel, which began last Friday and for which there has been a ceasefire and exchanges of Hamas hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
Authorities also indicated that almost 6,500 people remain missing under the ruins or their location is unknown, among them more than 4,700 women and children, according to what they said.
That figure is in addition to the more than 15,000 Palestinians who have reportedly died from the Israeli bombings, which began on October 7 after the militants led a bloody attack on Israeli territory, which left hundreds of people killed and injured and dozens kidnapped. .
The Gazan government office detailed that Israel’s offensive allegedly caused material damage to some 300,000 houses: 50,000 of them were completely destroyed and 250,000 partially damaged.
Hamas said quick humanitarian solutions need to be found to shelter more than a quarter of a million people left homeless.
Likewise, he stated that they are in a situation of “humanitarian catastrophe” and warned that winter and rain are approaching.
According to Efe, the terrorists also mentioned the electricity outages generated by fuel shortages. This situation has not been overcome despite the fact that in recent days trucks loaded with gasoline have arrived in the midst of the humanitarian pause.
The truce between Hamas and Israel will be in effect until this Wednesday and there is a possibility that the parties involved in the conflict – mediated by the governments of Egypt, Qatar and the United States – will announce a new extension.
