An 81-year-old man was arrested by police after repeatedly stabbing his daughter with a kitchen knife on Monday outside a home in the city’s south.

Metro Nashville Police received a call around 1:30 pm Monday about a domestic disturbance in the 3000 block of Louise Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the victim, a 50-year-old woman, with stab wounds to her chest, lower neck and cheek, WZTV reported.

The victim, whose identity has not been published, was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was stabilized but had serious injuries.

In images provided by investigators, the subject identified as Floyd Allen Seay is seen grabbing his daughter’s head and throwing her to the ground, hitting her in the face several times and then entering the house to look for a knife. He then returned with the knife and began stabbing his daughter mercilessly.

A witness told police that after the stabbing, Seay stood up, handed the knife to a neighbor and said, “I tried to kill her, but I couldn’t.”

Seay admitted to investigators that he had grabbed the knife intentionally, but that he did not know why he had done so. He stated that the fight escalated because of “everything that had been building up” and that he would do it again if he had the chance, the arrest report noted.

The suspect was charged with attempted criminal homicide, a felony that can carry a prison sentence of 15 to 60 years in Tennessee. He was arrested and booked into Metro Jail on $500,000 bail.
