Israel’s military said Friday morning local time that it had resumed fighting in Gaza after accusing Hamas of violating ceasefire terms and firing into Israeli territory.
Israel’s military said Friday morning that its planes were launching strikes in Gaza.
Around 7 a.m. local time (midnight ET), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) accused Hamas of firing into Israeli territory.
The IDF said “a series of launches” were identified that “were not intercepted according to protocol.” He did not mention any victims of the launches.
“IDF fighter jets are currently attacking Hamas terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip,” the IDF said.
“Hamas violated the operational pause and also fired into Israeli territory,” the Israel Defense Forces said.
The pause came into effect through an agreement on November 24. During that time, 105 Hamas hostages were freed from Gaza, officials said. Israel has released 240 Palestinians detained in Israeli jails.
Minutes after a week-long truce between Israel and Hamas broke down on Friday, Israeli military vehicles were firing in northwest Gaza, according to the Interior Ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza.
In a statement, the ministry also said that Israeli planes were flying over the area.
Hamas’ statement comes as the Israeli military said it had resumed combat operations against the militant group, accusing it of violating the truce agreement by firing into Israel.
