The NBA star informed the Los Angeles Lakers of his decision not to play with the NBA team if his son Bronny’s debut with USC coincides with an NBA game.
“When he gets the clearance and is ready to play his first game, I already told my teammates that if they play the same day as us, I will have to see them in the next game,” James said.
And he clarified: “Family above all… But I definitely have to see Bronny’s first game when he is authorized and ready to play.”
Jokingly, Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell showed their anger at LeBron’s possible absence. The center assured that the two team captains discussed the matter during a recent team flight and that the forward has the full support of the locker room.
Between December 28 and January 27, the Lakers and Trojans games coincide on six dates in which the Los Angeles rivals are the Hornets, the Timberwolves, the Heat, the Jazz, the Mavericks and the Warriors.
December 28: Lakers vs. Charlotte Hornets; USC in Oregon
December 30: Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves; USC at Oregon State
January 3: Lakers vs. Miami Heat; USC vs. California
January 13: Lakers at Utah Jazz; USC in Colorado
January 17: Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks USC in Arizona
January 27: Lakers at Golden State Warriors; USC vs. UCLA
“It is a moment of pride. There is great enthusiasm for Bronny in the family and at USC. It’s something she’s been working on for the past 12 weeks. It is very gratifying that he obtains authorization to be able to do what he loves, to be with his teammates again and put on a uniform,” says the Lakers forward, who can be orphaned by their star for a day.
“It’s impossible to make an evaluation,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said of the season so far.
But Bronny’s upgrade was a reminder of the bigger picture for a team that has big goals of its own this season.
“It’s amazing,” Ham said. “I am very happy for him and his family.”
Bronny James can return to action
Bronny James, eldest son of LeBron James and a freshman at USC (University of Southern California), received the best news he could hope for this Friday.
The 19-year-old has finally been given the go-ahead by doctors to return to playing basketball, just four months after he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during training.
James, the Los Angeles Lakers star’s first-born son, could return to training with his college team, the USC Trojans, as soon as next week. After a final evaluation with USC staff just a few days ago, any problem or sequelae were ruled out, and the expectation is that he “will return to the games shortly thereafter,” as confirmed by his family in a statement.
“The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community and especially the countless friends, family and fans for their love and support. “We keep fighting!” added the family.
Bronny James had recently increased his activity, even warming up with the team before the last games, removing any doubt about his state of health even though he has continued to be cautious. Not even the dream of emulating his father’s footsteps is worth more than his own well-being.
