The New York Mets organization revealed the appointment of Eduardo Brizuela as vice president and special assistant to the president of baseball operations.
According to the Mets’ official statement, Brizuela will help and advise in areas that include player development, roster management and construction, player acquisition and the daily activity of the Major League team.
Brizuela spent the previous 15 years of his ascendant career in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, originally joining as an advanced scouting intern in 2009. From there he moved on to the roles of administration coordinator for Latin American operations (2010-2012). , director of Latin America/scouteo operations (2013-2015), assistant director of team farms (2016-2019), director of minor league operations (2019), senior director of player operations and minor leagues (2020) and vice president and special assistant to the general manager/baseball operations (2021-2023).
Brizuela has supported the Venezuelan Baseball Federation since 2019 and in 2023 he served as general manager of the World Baseball Classic team. During his tenure with Venezuela, he has been responsible for building the rosters, staff and work teams of the WBC, Premier 12 and U23 teams. In 2021, Venezuela won its first world championship in more than 60 years by winning the 2021 U-23 World Cup in Mexico.
Prior to joining the Brewers, Brizuela served as an assistant coach at Polk Community College (2007-2008). In 2008, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from Webber International University. Eduardo, his wife Yelixa and his three sons, David, Luca and Alec, reside in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The other additions to the metropolitan offices are Andy Green, as senior vice president of player development, and Kris Gross, as vice president of amateur scouting.
“The additions of Eduardo, Andy and Kris will bolster an already talented staff,” said Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns. “Each of these individuals brings valuable experience and perspective to Queens. “We are excited to get to work building an organization with the goal of a sustainable winning culture.”
Joey Wendle joins the Mets
The Mets have agreed to terms with versatile infielder Joey Wendle, the team announced Thursday.
Wendle, 33, whose contract is expected to be worth $2 million plus performance bonuses, is a reliable utility man who has experience playing all over the infield and occasionally in the outfield. He went to the 2021 All-Star Game with the Rays and finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2018.
Last year with the Marlins, Wendle hit .212/.248/.306 with 20 RBIs, primarily playing shortstop, a position he covered in 81 games as a starter.
