The Moroccan Prosecutor’s Office announced this Sunday that Said Naciri, president of Wydad Casablanca, faces charges for drug trafficking. The leader of the popular football club will remain in preventive detention along with 18 other people linked to the investigation.
In addition, the president of the eastern regional council, Mohamed Bioui, has been accused of alleged links to a major Malian drug trafficker, currently detained in Morocco.
The investigative judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered the preventive detention of Naciri, Bioui and 18 other individuals, while authorizing judicial supervision of another suspect, as communicated by the king’s attorney general to the Casablanca Court of Appeal.
The same judge also asked the judicial police to deepen the investigations with four other suspects involved in the case.
Bioui and Naciri’s defense lawyers informed EFE that their clients were admitted to the Oukacha prison in Casablanca last Friday.
Naciri, Bioui and the other 23 suspects, including police, gendarmes and notaries, are charged with charges that include “complicity in drug trafficking, transportation and export”, “corruption”, “falsification of official documents” and “commission of acts “arbitrary actions that threaten personal and individual freedom.”
In addition, they are accused of “facilitating the entry and exit of Moroccan citizens from the territory on a regular basis within the framework of a criminal network” and “concealing the illicit origin of assets derived from criminal activities,” among other accusations.
Both Bioui and Naciri, the latter in charge of one of the most prominent clubs in Morocco and one of the most recognized in Africa, belong to the Authenticity and Modernity party (PAM), part of the ruling coalition in Morocco.
