US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, as well as other family members, will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas at the Camp David presidential country residence.

Formally known as the Naval Support Facility Thurmont, it is located in Catoctin Mountain Park, in Frederick County, Maryland.

A note from the White House notes that Camp David has offered every US president since Franklin Roosevelt (1933-1945) an opportunity to enjoy solitude and tranquility.

It has also been “an ideal place” to work and receive foreign leaders.

“Adapted from the Hi-Catoctin federal employee retreat, President Franklin Roosevelt originally established the residence as the USS Shangri La, with this new accommodation being a model of Roosevelt’s winter vacation home in Warm Springs, Georgia,” it says. the White House.

President Dwight Eisenhower then renamed it in honor of his grandson David.

The White House says the country residence has been used on several occasions to host foreign presidents and has played a crucial role in historic meetings.

“Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Great Britain attended the first such meeting in May 1943. The summit held at the residence in 1978 for Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin resulted in what we currently know as the Camp David Accords,” highlighted the press team at the president’s official residence.

The Biden family left for the rest home on Saturday. He will return to the White House on Tuesday and then leave on Wednesday for Santa Cruz, in the United States Virgin Islands, where he will receive the New Year, the Efe news agency indicated.

On Friday, the US president and the first lady participated in the traditional Christmas visit at Children’s Hospital in Washington. There, Jill Biden read a story to the children who were admitted to that medical center.
