Police in Columbus, Ohio, announced the arrest of three young people for the murder of a 53-year-old man, who was the victim of a brutal attack outside a Kroger grocery store on December 6.

The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m., when the three suspects entered the store and began causing problems with customers, including the fatal victim, Donnie Smith, according to authorities.

Although store security asked the teens to leave, they continued to confront people in the parking lot, where they beat Smith, leaving him unconscious and bleeding from the head.

Smith was later rushed to a hospital, where he was in critical condition for two weeks. But he ended up dying on December 20 due to the serious injuries he suffered.

The suspects were identified as Dionta Hughes, 18, Jamarion Evans-Bennett, 19, and Jayden Agee, 17. The first two, being of legal age, were charged with murder, while it is expected to be determined whether they Agee will be tried as an adult, or not.

The three suspects fled the scene in a red vehicle, leaving Smith lying on the ground. The police began a homicide investigation to find his whereabouts and managed to identify and arrest them.

A witness who was a friend of Smith told local ABC station WSYX-TV that the group of attackers were “trying to bother whoever they could” and had no reason to attack Smith.

Meanwhile, the police asked citizens for their collaboration to obtain more information about the case, which is still ongoing.
