One dead and three seriously injured left a Christmas Eve shooting at the Citadel Mall, a shopping center in Colorado Springs, on Sunday afternoon, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The events occurred around 4:34 pm, when the agents received an emergency call alerting of shots fired inside the shopping center. When the police arrived, they found a lifeless man who had been hit by bullets.
The shooting occurred after a dispute between two groups of people, who clashed inside the Citadel Mall, according to initial investigations. However, police have not revealed the reason for the fight or the relationship between those involved.
In addition to the deceased man, whose identity has not been released, two other men suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to nearby hospitals, where they are in serious condition. Likewise, a woman was slightly injured and received medical attention.
Colorado Springs police reported that several people were arrested in connection with the shooting and that the department is “working to determine their involvement.” Likewise, the police assured that the situation is under control and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The shooting occurred on Christmas Eve, when the mall was full of customers doing their Christmas shopping.
Colorado Springs police asked witnesses to the shooting to contact the department with information to help clarify the facts, and asked the public to avoid the shopping center area while the investigation is underway.
