A woman sought a quick escape by jumping into the East River after her vehicle exploded into flames on FDR in Manhattan on Sunday morning.

The 23-year-old, who has not been identified by authorities, was driving her sedan north on the parkway when she crashed into a barrier on East 102 Street just before 6:30 a.m., according to police. New York Police Department.

The car suddenly caught fire and the woman managed to escape by jumping into the 45°F waters, officials explained.

So far it has not been clarified whether she herself was engulfed in flames and jumped in desperation into the icy waters of the East River, NBC New York reported.

She was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition after rescuers managed to pull her from the river, officials said.

The investigation into this is still ongoing.
