Adriana Mariel Rullán, 27, a former educator at Antonio González High School in Laredo, Texas, faces charges of sexual abuse of a minor, inappropriate relationship and sexual contact with a student under 14 years old. According to Webb County court records, Rullán had at least twelve sexual encounters with the student earlier this year.

The investigation began when the parents of the 13-year-old student noticed unusual expenses at a local Academy sporting goods store. After questioning, the boy claimed to have received money from “good friends.”

However, the Cash App review revealed suspicious transactions linked to Rullán. Likewise, the minor’s father found a conversation with the name “Adriana” and graphics of pink hearts, according to Law&Crime.

The student’s stepfather contacted the person, who admitted to being the child’s teacher. This discovery led the minor to run away from home. After several calls between Rullán and her parents, in which the woman tried to explain the situation, they filed a criminal complaint at the end of November, according to the Morning Times.

An affidavit revealed compromising text messages and explicit photographs sent by Rullán to the student. The teacher, although she admitted some error, repeatedly denied the allegations of sexual relations during an interview with authorities.

“In a way, I know I did wrong,” the defendant allegedly said at one point during her interview. “I’ve always been the type to put his needs before mine, and I feel like this just got me carried away.”

The woman then contacted the child’s parents to acknowledge her mistake. “I am the adult person. I should have known better,” she said. However, the authorities did not believe him, according to the Morning Times.

The text messages, according to the affidavit, showed that the teacher and the student had “sexual relations/sexual contact” during school on at least 12 occasions from Aug. 18 to Nov. 19.

Rullán was arrested on December 20 by the United Independent School District Police Department and posted $175,000 bail the same day.

The school issued a vague statement on the matter, mentioning collaboration with police and putting Rullán on leave upon learning of the allegations.

The woman no longer works as an educator.

The illicit relationship also had an emotional impact on the student, who attempted to harm himself the day it was discovered, being hospitalized and subsequently admitted to a mental health facility. Rullán, despite his half-repentance, faces serious legal consequences.
