A brave 6-year-old girl did everything she could to save her mother’s life, but tragedy prevailed, turning Christmas Day into horror at her home in Brooklyn (NYC).
On Monday, December 25, the girl called 911 and her older sister, who ran to the public housing apartment (NYCHA) of her mother Rashedia Fitch, 46, at Kingsborough Houses in Crown Heights. The woman had nine children, said her neighbor and a family friend.
Upon arrival, officers found two bags of an unspecified drug near Fitch, police sources said. Paramedics rushed to apply advanced life-saving techniques, but the mother died at the scene, in front of her young daughter.
Although investigators believe he suffered a fatal overdose, the city medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of his death.
“It’s something hard, painful and this happened at Christmas.”
“The girl was brave. She was the one who called 911,” she told Daily News neighbor Mildred Pérez, 76, who lives across the hall. “Her little daughter is fine.”
“It’s hard, it’s painful and this happened on Christmas,” said Lorraine Duncan, 55, Fitch’s aunt, who described her as “a very strong, determined person. “She stood her ground on different things.” Regarding the hero girl she commented that “she is pretty good… She doesn’t understand much, but she is excellent.”
