The United States Government announced this Wednesday a new shipment of $250 million in weapons to Ukraine, according to a statement from the State Department.
The package consists of ammunition and other components for air defense systems, ammunition for high mobility artillery systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, anti-armor ammunition and more than 15 million rounds.
This is the “final package of the year” 2023, assured the Government of Joe Biden, which weeks ago announced that the money available for Ukraine – about 75 billion dollars – was about to run out. The Government has not detailed how much of that money remains.
To date, the United States Congress has approved that sum for Ukraine to combat Russian forces.
That is why the Government has been asking Congress for months to approve a military aid package that includes another $61 billion for Ukraine, in addition to about $15 billion for Israel.
However, the skepticism of a good number of Republicans to allocate more money to Ukraine in the face of a stagnant war scenario has prevented its approval from going ahead for the moment.
Republicans are asking, in exchange for approving this package, for profound changes in the internal immigration policy of the United States.
And as reported by the Efe agency, President Joe Biden is willing to dismantle the asylum system and break his campaign promises in exchange for Republicans supporting an extraordinary expenditure of more than $60 billion to continue financing the war in Ukraine. .
Has the money for Ukraine run out?
Last week, White House national security spokesman John Kirby warned that it could be the last aid package for Ukraine.
“When that is done, we will no longer have resupply authority available,” Kirby told reporters.
Despite that, the Biden Administration continues to press for approval as soon as possible.
“It is essential that Congress act without delay on the Administration’s pending supplemental request,” McCord said in the copy of the letter obtained by CNN. “Doing so is clearly in our national interest, and our assistance is vitally important so that Ukraine can continue its fight for freedom and ensure that Russia continues to fail in Ukraine.”
Kirby also stated last week that: “Ukraine still needs our help, and it is time for Congress to act and defend freedom and democracy and our own national security interests, which are very much at stake.”
