Like a large number of music and entertainment personalities, Cher has faced, for several years, a complicated family situation: her son Elijah Allman’s addictions.

The musician and guitarist also began his addiction to drugs at the age of 11, according to his own testimony. However, despite various attempts to recover from this condition, Elijah has not been able to “heal” completely and has relapsed on multiple occasions.

Due to the above, and after the revelation that Elijah Allman is in a rehabilitation clinic due to his strong problems with alcohol and other substances, it has been Cher herself who has decided to “take matters into her own hands” and help her son: has requested legal custody of his son.

Why does Cher want legal custody of her own son?

According to information published by the specialized media TMZ, Cher has presented a series of documents to obtain legal custody of her son as well as control his money under the “excuse” that the American musician is “substantially incapable of managing his own resources.”

It should be remembered that Cher’s son, with whom she fathered him with musician Gregg Allman, receives a monthly pension. However, according to the singer herself, Elijah’s current condition has caused her “concern” because he could spend all her money on drugs. Added to the above is the support of Gregg’s brothers, who agree to give Cher legal custody of her nephew.

For all of the above, the “After All” singer will appear before the California court on March 6, 2024 while Elijah Allman will continue his recovery in a clinic in the same state.

Cher wants to help her son

Prior to the request for legal custody, Cher had been accused, by her ex-daughter-in-law Marie King, of trying to kidnap her own son in December 2022. According to her son’s ex-partner, the singer intended to “take out ” to his son from a luxurious hotel in Los Angeles that he shared with King with the intention of taking him to an addiction treatment center.

After the accusation, Cher broke her silence and flatly denied what King said. However, in said statement, she did not give more information about the alleged incident and boasted that it was a mother’s job to see her children well.
