Several months had passed since the controversy began with the Tampa Bay Rays player, Wander Franco, and his alleged relationship with a minor, the same reason why the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Adolescents of the Dominican Republic has cited him. formally to be questioned.
According to information published by Enrique Rojas of ESPN, the Attorney General of the Court of Appeal and director of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Adolescents, Olga Diné Llaverías, sent a request to Franco and his lawyers asking him to attend the headquarters of the organization located in Santo Domingo this Thursday, December 28, at 11 AM
In that sense, the player’s representatives in this process have requested that the Attorney General’s Office be notified of “all acts related to the investigation, as well as any request from the Public Ministry or the judicial authorities related to the investigation.”
It should be remembered that in the month of August a complaint arose against Wander Franco in which he was accused of allegedly having had a relationship with a minor in the Dominican Republic, something that caused the Tampa Bay Rays to place him on administrative leave until now.
An investigation was launched into the 22-year-old player in the Dominican Republic and some time later the ESPN network reported that at least two people had filed legal actions against the player.
In addition to the investigation being carried out by the Dominican Justice, the offices of the Major Leagues are doing the same with the intention of clarifying the facts and subsequently making a decision about the future of playing in the league.
It is important to remember that, at the time of being placed on administrative leave, the Rays issued a statement in which they expressed their support for the league’s decision and were willing to cooperate in the investigation.
“We support Major League Baseball’s decision to place Wander Franco on administrative leave (…) The Tampa Bay Rays are dedicated to maintaining high standards of integrity both on and off the field. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans and followers as this process unfolds. We will not have any further statements on this matter until MLB completes its process,” the Tampa organization said the last time it spoke on this topic.
It should be remembered that Franco signed a contract for 12 years and more than $200 million dollars with the Rays in 2021, which could be at risk if the investigation finds him guilty of what he is accused of.
