Margot Robbie has broken her silence regarding the recent controversy caused by her exclusion from the Best Actress category, for “Barbie”, at the Academy Awards. During a meeting held by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), the interpreter tried to dodge the question by defending her director and placing greater emphasis on the success of the film. .
It should be remembered that after the announcement of the nominees for the 2024 Oscars, the Australian’s name was not mentioned despite having been nominated for other awards such as the Golden Globe, the Critics Choice Awards and even the SAG, considered one of the most important awards within the acting range.
The success achieved by the film, which became the highest grossing film of 2023, as well as the great reception from the public and critics, seemed enough elements for Robbie to earn his second Oscar nomination. However, all of the above was not enough for the members of the Academy to decide to include Margot among this year’s nominees.
What else did Margot Robbie say about her Oscar “rejection”?
During her participation in the panel, the actress was questioned about the controversy surrounding her exclusion from the Oscar. To the above, the Australian began her response by defending her director, Greta Grewig, who was also surprisingly omitted from the Best Director category.
Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is something once in her career, something once in a lifetime; what she achieved, she really is. But it has been an incredible year for all the films.”
After this statement, Margot Robbie added that the success of “Barbie” became her greatest reward or satisfaction, in addition to the fact that the goal of the film was always “to create something that would change culture.”
However, she also stated that her omission from the Best Actress category “is beyond us.” The above, according to a large number of users, would be a clear allusion to the Academy’s policies, which could have worked against them.
It is worth noting that although Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were “forgotten” by the Oscars, Ryan Gosling and América Ferrara did obtain nominations in the categories of Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
Despite these “triumphs” for the film, in addition to its nominations in other categories such as Best Film, Best Original Song, Best Adapted Screenplay, among others, a large number of social media users showed their dissatisfaction with the omission of Robbie and Gerwig.
Even her own co-stars, as well as Hillary Clinton herself, made public their displeasure with the “Barbie” actress and director.
