American households have until February 7 to apply for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that helps ensure households can afford broadband Internet, and offering a discount of up to $30 per month for Internet service and up to $75 per month for qualifying households.
Additionally, households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 toward the purchase of a laptop, desktop, or tablet from participating vendors if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
The ACP is an FCC benefit program that helps ensure households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare, and more.
Who is eligible for the affordable connectivity program?
A household is eligible for the ACP if the household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or if a household member meets at least one of the following criteria:
-Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;
– Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income Internet program;
– Participate in one of these assistance programs:
· Free or reduced-price school lunch program or school breakfast program, including in schools with the USDA community eligibility provision.
· BREAK
· Health insurance
· Federal housing assistance
· Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
· WIC
· Veterans pension or survivor benefits
· o Lifeline
– Participate in one of these assistance programs and live on qualifying tribal lands:
· General assistance from the Office of Indian Affairs
Tribal TANF
· Food distribution program on Indian reservations
· Tribal Head Start (income based)
The Affordable Connectivity Program is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.
