A group of 30 Kentucky educators and former educators, known as ‘The Jones 30,’ hit the jackpot and won the second Powerball jackpot: $1 million.

The workers are from the town of Hebron.

Saturday night changed their lives by matching the five main numbers: 7, 38, 65, 66, 68, although they did not match the Powerball number, which was 21, which would have given them the jackpot.

For years, the group always stayed at 30 people and they played the same numbers over and over again.

The group’s organizer, a retired math teacher, realized the day after the drawing that the group had won one of the big prizes.

He told lottery officials that upon learning of the prize, he kept the ticket safe by hiding it in a math book.

“No one looks at a math book. “I knew I would be safe there… page 200.”

The group decided to distribute the prize money equally among the 30 members, which would be $33,333 dollars per person, before taxes.

Now that they are wealthier, most of the group members remain committed to their vocation, and plan to invest in personal needs, such as new appliances, paying off debts, and dream vacations.

The winners purchased their winning ticket at a Kroger store, which will receive an extra commission of $10,000.
