McDonald’s launched a space-themed restaurant concept called CosMc’s, which has successfully taken off since opening in the city of Bolingbrook, Illinois, in early December.
This new establishment, focused on drinks, contrasts with traditional McDonald’s restaurants due to its smaller size and fewer products on the menu, but with an offer of modern and fun drinks.
Although CosMc’s only has one store and only offers service through drive-thru, it has had more visits than regular McDonald’s restaurants in its first month.
An analysis by analytics platform Placer.ai revealed that this 260 square meter restaurant doubled the total number of visits and tripled the number of visitors per square meter compared to an average McDonald’s.
However, it is suggested that it could achieve even greater success by optimizing its service capacity and waiting area.
The four-lane drive-thru system presents certain challenges, such as confusion and bottlenecks when there are delays in orders, which limits its ability to meet high demand.
It is speculated that CosMc’s seeks to compete with trendy establishments such as Starbucks, which offer unique snacks and drinks, especially attracting young people between 22 and 29 years old.
McDonald’s is planning to open about 10 new CosMc’s locations on a trial basis by the end of 2024, and is considering areas of large cities such as Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio to establish these new stores.
