The well-known boxing promoter Óscar de la Hoya took the microphones this Saturday to talk about who should be Canelo Álvarez’s next rival, explaining that in his opinion he should accept a fight against his compatriot Jaime Munguía.
In a press conference this Saturday, de la Hoya indicated that Canelo Álvarez’s fight to defend his super middleweight world champion titles should be fought against Munguía because considering himself the King of the discipline he should not be afraid or rival in the face of it.
“The King, as he calls himself, has a challenge to face, it is the fight he must make (against Munguía),” revealed the Golden Boy Promotions promoter.
In fact, de la Hoya was even encouraged to assure that the ideal date for the fight would be for the month of September, coupled with the fact that rumors suggest that Canelo Álvarez will soon announce his rival and that this will be Jermall Charlo, Jermell Charlo’s twin. whom he defeated in his most recent fight.
However, said fight would be scheduled for the month of May, so September would be an ideal month for a possible fight against Munguía.
Despite this, other information, also rumors, assume that after Jermall Charlo, Canelo Álvarez’s decision would be to enter the ring to unify titles with the American Terence Crawford.
In any case, we would have to wait for the official communication from the Canelo Team about its decision of the two fights, but if they agreed against Charlo and Crawford, Canelo Álvarez would have again avoided two Mexicans, being Munguía (43-0, 34 KO) and David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KO) is a pair of dangerous rivals with whom the native of Guadalajara prefers not to risk.
