David Clements, a teenager who had threatened to shoot himself, ended up fatally shot by police who came to his home last night in Long Island (NY).

The incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Friday at a residence on Stone Boulevard in Massapequa. Nassau County police said they responded to a call about a suicide and when they arrived they found Clements, 19, standing in front of his home with three guns in his possession.

Deputies say the teen threatened to kill himself and ignored officers’ repeated calls to put his weapons down. He then entered his house and came out again, ran down the driveway and pointed a gun at the officers, he described. ABCNews.

Nassau County Police say the shooting was necessary to stop the threat to officers and the public. Clements was pronounced dead at the scene.

The young man had a history of mental illness and access to weapons. It is not clear who called the police nor were other people home.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Team will continue its investigation of this incident alongside the New York State Attorney General’s Office, as is the case in any incident where a person is killed during an encounter with police.

In December, a former inmate died after shooting police in Lower Manhattan who were looking for him on weapons and sexual abuse charges. In January, a man slashed three NYPD officers with a machete while they were trying to arrest him for domestic violence in an apartment in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Also last week, a man was killed in a shootout with police at a motel in South Brunswick, New Jersey. He was suspected of several serious crimes, including the robbery of a Brooklyn (NYC) bishop during a religious service in 2022.
