FIFA has instructed the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) to pay the sum of $1.71 million dollars to the former coach of the Venezuelan national team, the Argentine José Pekerman. This decision arises from a lawsuit filed by Pekerman, who alleged “breach” of the termination agreement of his contract.
According to the FIFA resolution, the FVF must pay Pekerman $1.71 million in “due remuneration.” In addition, 5% annual interest will be applied from August 22, 2023 until the effective date of payment. Likewise, an additional penalty of 1.14 million dollars is stipulated.
Pekerman’s arrival and departure from Venezuela occurred in a short period. Presented as coach on November 30, 2021, his departure was announced on March 8, 2023. Although at that time the FVF declared that the differences had been resolved amicably, the situation led to a lawsuit by Pekerman before FIFA, alleging non-compliance with the termination agreement.
Regarding FIFA’s resolution, the body mentions that Pekerman’s demand has been “partially accepted.” It is specified that the FVF must comply with the stipulated payment within a period of 45 days from notification of the decision, and any other demand from the Argentine coach is ruled out.
In case of non-compliance with payments, FIFA establishes consequences, such as withholding 20% of the next installment payable from FIFA Forward development funds. If non-compliance persists, the matter could be referred to the FIFA disciplinary commission, according to the request of the affected party.
