A tragic event that occurred in Henry County, Georgia, involved an eight-year-old girl who was hit by a car while trying to get on the school bus last Thursday, causing serious injuries that ended up costing her her life on Saturday. , according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The school bus had reportedly stopped with its red lights flashing and stop signs activated. However, the driver of a Ford Fusion did not stop and ran over the girl, who was crossing the road to get on the bus.
The girl was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital, where doctors attempted to save her life, but she died from her injuries, the State Patrol said in a statement.
The driver of the car was identified as Kaylee Andre, 25, who was arrested and taken to the Henry County Jail. She currently faces charges of first-degree vehicular manslaughter, failure to stop to load and unload a school bus, and failure to exercise due care.
According to the State Patrol, Andre’s windshield was covered in ice and he had not cleared it completely, preventing him from seeing the road properly. The suspect told officers that he did not see the bus or the girl until the tragic crash occurred.
This event has caused shock in the school community and in the neighbors of Henry County, who have expressed their pain and solidarity with the girl’s family.
