The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides essential support to help many Americans access food. This program, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by each state, sets certain employment standards that everyone must meet, with particular rules for people ages 18 to 52 who do not have dependents.

People who receive help must demonstrate that they are actively looking for work, registering with approved job centers and accepting jobs that apply to them. If they leave their job without a valid reason, they could lose assistance.

Issues such as health issues, home emergencies, or lack of transportation can be valid reasons to quit.

Individuals aged 18 to 52, who are not dependent on others and who are able to work, must comply with stricter standards.

They must work or be in work or training programs for at least 80 hours per month to continue receiving SNAP help for more than three months in a three-year period.

If this condition is not met, benefits stop. However, some states offer exceptions due to high unemployment or job shortages, and there are also exceptions for certain groups such as veterans, people with disabilities, and pregnant women.

These regulations seek to balance supporting basic needs with promoting self-sufficiency among SNAP recipients.

The management of these requirements changes from one state to another, allowing adjustment to the economic situation of each place and ensuring that people who really need it get the required support.
