Argentine football once again claimed another fatality this Sunday due to clashes between violent groups, since a fan of Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza died this Sunday, the victim of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

After less than 24 hours ago a Chacarita Juniors fan died from a stab wound during a brawl between fans of the same club, another match in the Primera B Nacional (Second Division of local soccer) experienced a similar clash.

In the run-up to the Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza-Defensores de Belgrano duel, two factions of the local team’s barra brava faced each other around the stadium.

According to the Mendoza newspaper Los Andes, in that clash one of the fans was shot in the abdomen which caused his death.

His body remained lying in the street for several minutes, accompanied by his father, whose face was hit by objects thrown during the fight, according to that publication.

Although the match started a little later than expected, it was played normally. The club tried to justify this fact on its social networks, pointing out that “given the facts already known, AFA (Argentine Football Association) establishes that only the match vs Def will be played. From Belgrano with only the people who are currently inside the stadium.”

24 hours earlier there was also a history of death due to violence

On the day played this Saturday, and once the duel between Chacarita Juniors and Maipú had begun, a group of local fans moved outside the stadium. There they began a fist fight until one of the fans came out “with a stab wound to the chest.”

The match was suspended for a few minutes, but then resumed as if nothing had happened.

Violence is one of the endemic evils of Argentine football. The last clash between fans, although without a fatal result, had occurred last weekend, when River Plate fans faced each other before the match between Martín Demichelis’ team and Argentinos Juniors.

In that duel, there were 30 detainees, later released, although they have been banned from stepping on a soccer field for the next four years.
