The president of the United States, Joe Biden, expressed this Monday his concern for the British King Charles III, after he was diagnosed with cancer, and stated that he hopes to have a conversation with him soon.
During an event in Las Vegas, when asked about the monarch’s health, the American president said: “I’m worried, I just found out about the diagnosis right now. But, I hope to speak with him soon, God willing.”
The news of King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis has sparked concern around the world and, due to his position as a member of the British royal family, the news has been closely followed by people both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
“During the king’s recent hospital treatment for a benign prostate enlargement, a different worrying matter was discovered. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” Buckingham Palace said.
The monarch, who ascended the throne less than a year and a half ago after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, is now facing a serious illness, the extent of which is unknown.
“His majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to avoid speculation and in the hope that it can help public understanding towards all those in the world who are affected by cancer,” the official statement also indicates.
He plans to continue his functions
Shortly after the news broke, it was learned that the king of England will continue doing his job as head of the country, but will cancel his public appearances while he receives treatment for cancer, which began this Monday.
The monarch’s agenda includes weekly meetings with the prime minister and other official tasks, and private commitments that will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, the Efe news agency said.
In the midst of procedures to treat Charles III’s cancer, of which no details have been provided except the clarification that it does not affect the prostate, the British royal family is preparing to take on additional duties to cover the king’s public absences. .
Charles III returned from Sandringham to London this Monday to begin his treatment as an outpatient, after the cancer was discovered during examinations for his prostate condition. Queen Camilla, who will lead the family’s effort to fulfill the duties, accompanied him.
He was “very positive” about the treatment and intends to “return to full public activity as soon as possible,” the news agency said.
