This Sunday, February 4, the American singer Taylor Swift made history at the Grammys by winning Album of the Year for the fourth time, the highest recognition of these awards.
In addition to the record, Swift has made headlines for ignoring Canadian singer Céline Dion, who was in charge of giving her the prestigious award.
As is customary, the Album of the Year award was the last to be given out of the night and everyone was surprised to see the public reappearance of Dion, who in December 2022 announced that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome.
When Dion announced Swift as the winner, you can see the surprise and excitement of the 34-year-old singer, who was surrounded by her work team. With that same emotion she went up on stage to receive the award, but it seems that in the midst of all the commotion she overlooked greeting Dion.
Everything seems to indicate that it was an oversight by Swift due to the excitement of the record, because after finishing the ceremony some media outlets shared a photo where both music stars are seen posing together and smiling.
However, the whole event has generated a lot of criticism towards Swift.
The reappearance of Céline Dion
In part, the annoyance on social networks comes from Céline Dion’s importance in the music industry and the bad time she is currently going through, since more than a year ago she was diagnosed with rigid person syndrome.
Even, as said before, her appearance at the awards attracted attention and made everyone present stand up to applaud her. “Thank you all. I love you too. When I say I’m happy to be here, I mean it from the heart.”
Before the name of the nominees in the Album of the Year category was announced, Dion said: “Those who have been lucky enough to be here at the Grammy Awards should never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and all the people in the world. For me it is an immense joy to present tonight the same award that two legends like Diana Ross and Sting gave me 27 years ago.”
