Argentine coach Fernando Gago announced Chivas’ call-up for the duel against Pumas, where the name of attacker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández stands out.
In this way, Hernández receives his first call from the coaching staff headed by Gago for Saturday’s duel on the Akron Stadium field for matchday 8 of Clausura 2024.
One of the most important signings of this tournament was the incorporation of ‘Chicharito’ Hernández to the red and white squad, although it was a matter of time before we could see him on the field because he had been injured in a knee since June 2023.
But it seems that the wait could be over for Chivas fans and they could see the “prodigal son” step on a field again in the Liga Mx.
‘Chicharito’ Hernández already trained alongside his teammates during the week, however, he could find himself out of rhythm due to the time he has spent inactive.
So his official return could wait until the match against Cruz Azul on March 2 or for the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions Cup against América, this being the main match where fans expect to see him.
The Chivas Coaching Body seeks to take care of his integrity, trying to ensure that he does not have a relapse of his injury or that a new one occurs, remembering that he is one of the footballers who are most looking forward to this tournament, along with José Juan Macías, the which has also had to go through several relapses, having to be absent for a year and a half.
The last time Javier Hernández participated in an official match was last June with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Mexican forward is part of the 21-man squad that makes up goalkeepers Raúl Rangel and Oscar Whalley; defenders with Antonio Briseño, Gilberto Orozco, Alan Mozo, Leonardo Sepúlveda, Mateo Chávez and Jesús Sánchez.
In midfield, the return of Erick Gutiérrez stands out, to accompany Víctor Guzmán, Eduardo Torres, Fernando Beltrán, Rubén González and Alejandro Organista.
The forwards are Roberto Alvarado, Ricardo Marín, José Juan Macías, Isaac Brizuela, Cade Cowell, Jesús Brígido and Javier Hernández.
