Brooks Ralph, a 27-year-old associate at a New York City investment firm, died in a tragic skiing accident on a rural slope near a popular resort in Vermont.

According to local authorities, Ralph’s body was discovered by search teams around midnight Tuesday, five hours after he was reported missing at Stowe Mountain Resort. He was found in a wooded area with prohibited access, he said. New YorkPost.

The young man’s body was taken to the Vermont state chief medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death, but a preliminary investigation indicates his death was accidental, police said yesterday.

Ralph lived in Cold Spring in Putnam County, NY and worked 58 miles south in Manhattan as an associate at the independent investment firm Hunter Point Capital.

“The entire Hunter Point Capital team is devastated by the tragic loss of our colleague and friend Brooks Ralph, who will be deeply missed,” the firm said in a statement. “We express our deepest condolences to Brooks’ family and loved ones.”

Ralph previously worked at Barclays Capital after graduating with honors from Columbia University, earning a degree in operations research and financial engineering, according to a biography on the company’s website.

“As skiers, we understand the appeal of exploring the backcountry and are devastated by the senseless loss of such a beautiful and adventurous young life,” Stowe Mountain Rescue said in a Facebook post.

The group that participated in the search for Ralph warned that backcountry skiing can carry risks. “There are multiple hazards, from unexpected cliff bands to hidden rocks, potential snowslides and deadly tree holes,” Stowe Mountain Rescue said. “Honestly, there is little that can be done to mitigate these dangers, even for expert skiers.”
