Starting next season, the winner of seven Formula 1 world championships, Lewis Hamilton, will no longer be with the Mercedes team and will drive for the legendary Italian team, Ferrari. In addition, he will become the highest paid driver on the circuit.

When the news of his signing for Ferrari became official, the British driver expressed that it is “a childhood dream” to drive a car from this team. Recently from Bahrain, where Mercedes is doing preseason, Hamilton went to the press and delved a little deeper into his move to the Italian team.

“It’s a dream and I’m really excited. I have never been to Maranello (city where the Ferrari factory is located). I bought my first Ferrari in 2010. The first gift I gave myself. But I didn’t get to go, it wasn’t a good idea being with Mercedes,” Hamilton revealed.

Currently Ferrari has fallen behind compared to what it was several years ago. Especially at the time when Michael Schumacher was a team driver and went on to win seven world championships, five of them consecutively.

Ferrari’s last championship was in 2007, the Italian team has gone more than 15 years without winning a title and the experienced driver recognized the great responsibility he will have to put the Ferrari name back at the top of Formula 1.

“For any driver, growing up and seeing the history that Michael Schumacher made, we all wanted that. We go to the Italian GP and see the red sea of Italian fans. “It is a team that has not had great success practically since Michael’s time, and since 2007. For me it is a great challenge,” Hamilton explained.

Hamilton did not want to miss his opportunity with Ferrari

In August 2023 Lewis Hamilton renewed his contractual relationship with Mercedes until the end of 2024. However, just a couple of months later his agreement with Ferrari for 2025 was made official, the driver also explained the reason for this change in such a short time.

“When I signed the renewal I saw my future with Mercedes. But an opportunity came and I decided to take it. It is the most difficult decision I have had to make in my life, Mercedes has supported me for 26 years. We have made history in sports, I am very proud of what we have achieved. But I write my story and I felt it was time to start a new chapter,” Lewis explained.

Next March 2 when the new Formula 1 season begins, it will be the last for Lewis Hamilton driving with Merdeces and from the following campaign we will see him at 39 years old and after 15 seasons with the same team, in a new team called Ferrari.
