The New York Yankees debut this Saturday against the Detroit Tigers at the start of Spring Training. The Big Apple team will seek to compete again in the Eastern Division of the American League, where last season they were very far from getting a place in the playoffs.
The top figures of the New York team are already fine-tuning details to be 100% on Opening Day. For the Yankees it will be on March 28 in Texas against the Hosuton Astros, with whom they will have a series of four games before going to Arizona and then to New York to make their home debut.
One of the stars who will begin his career this season will be Aaron Judge. The Yankees slugger could be seen engaged in training and in 2024 he will seek to repeat what he achieved in 2022, when he ended up being the MVP and breaking the American League home run record with 62 homers.
But offense is not all that Judge has to contribute to the New York team. Well, in his role as a center fielder or right fielder, he stands out as one of the best, having very correct speed and glove.
However, it seems that Aaron Boone has in mind to take Judge’s talents much further. And recently a report from TheAthletic from the Yankees’ training camps, they claim that the captain would be being tested at first base.
The report states that in Tampa, Judge was training at first base and was seen enjoying it. They also affirm that the player himself would be willing to play in this position if the team requires it. So for the moment it would be in the eventual case that Aaron could cover the first base.
Currently the team’s starting first baseman is Anthony Rizzo. However, last season he was barely able to play less than 100 games due to injuries. Given this possible eventuality, Boone wants to watch his back and try Judge at first, because if another injury occurs to Rizzo during the season, he can count on “Judge” to cover him.
But this position is not foreign to Aaron Judge, because although he has not played there for many years, he has done so in the past. Well, in the talented player’s beginnings at his Fresno State high school, he became the team’s starting first baseman.
