The head of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksandr Sirski, appealed this Saturday to the “unity” of all its citizens to achieve “victory” over Russia, in a message published on his Telegram channel on the occasion of the second anniversary of the start of the war in which remembers that few believed at the beginning in Ukraine’s possibilities of resistance.
“Today, more than ever, we need unity. I am convinced that unity is our victory,” Sirski said in the text, which recalls the first days of the invasion in which many anticipated a Ukrainian defeat in just a few days.
The head of the Army, who took office this month replacing General Valeri Zaluzhni, thanked all the soldiers, volunteers and civilians who have made it possible for Ukraine to continue fighting against Russian military aggression and paid his respects to those who have lost their life fighting.
“Ukraine’s best sons and daughters are dying,” he said of “the supreme price for freedom” the country is paying.
Sirski reviewed the course of the war and acknowledged that last summer’s counteroffensive did not bring “the desired results” for Ukraine. Despite this, he continued, the Ukrainian Army continues to fight on the entire front to prevent more and more Ukrainian towns and cities from “becoming another Bucha, another Bakhmut or another Avdivka.”
The general also alluded to Ukrainian success in clearing its waters in the Black Sea of Russian ships, despite the clear superiority of Russian forces at sea.
Regarding the latest events of the war, Sirski foresaw “an asymmetric response to the Russian occupier also in the air.”
“There will be even more Russian planes burning,” the military man wrote after Ukraine managed to destroy this Friday the second Russian A-50 spy plane so far this year.
