Karyn S. Parrish, a 28-year-old mother from Florida, faces serious allegations of child abuse. According to authorities, Parrish allegedly physically and mentally abused her young son, even going so far as to encourage one of the victim’s brothers to hit the child with a belt.
Parrish’s arrest followed a welfare call on Tuesday, which led officers to a residence at the Preserve at Sabal Park Apartments in Seffner, Florida, Law&Crime reported.
Upon arriving at the residence, officers found the child, who reportedly showed signs of distress, including trembling and crying.
In addition, it was observed that the child had received a new haircut and had a bruise on his cheek measuring approximately five centimeters. When asked about the cause of the injury, the boy allegedly indicated that Parrish was responsible.
According to an affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the boy said, “Maybe my mom. Maybe she was slapping me.” Additionally, he noted that his mother often “tells him that she doesn’t remember things.”
physical abuse
Investigators revealed that Parrish admitted to slapping the boy at least three times with the palm of his right hand.
Additionally, during a search of Parrish’s cell phone, several disturbing videos were discovered showing the suspect’s lack of concern for the child’s physical and mental well-being.
In one of the videos, Parrish can be heard ordering one of her children to hit the boy with a belt, while she laughs and tells him to hit harder.
Another video, according to the affidavit, shows Parrish cutting the victim’s hair while verbally taunting him, saying he will be “tortured” for eight hours. In the same video, Parrish is heard saying that “if he dies, so be it.”
Bail of $7,500 dollars
These actions have led to Parrish’s arrest and the filing of a felony child abuse charge against him.
The authorities have not revealed the sex of the victim, although it is specified that he is under five years old. It is also unclear how many children lived in the Parrish home, but the minors were reportedly removed and placed in the care of a relative.
As of Friday afternoon, Parrish remained in custody at the Falkenburg Road Jail on $7,500 bail.
At a hearing, Hillsborough County Circuit Court Judge Catherine M. Catlin ordered that, if released, Parrish should have no contact with the victim or any other minors, including her other children.
Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his dismay at the case, calling it “absolutely heartbreaking and incomprehensible,” and showed his solidarity with the two children affected.
