Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, soccer player for Chivas de Guadalajara, shared that his return to the team where he began his career has given him back the feeling of being a true soccer player.
“I am moved, happy because beyond knowing that this moment was going to come sooner or later, today I felt like a footballer again,” said the scorer in a press conference reported by EFE.
After more than 13 years playing for teams such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Leverkusen, West Ham, Sevilla and the LA Galaxy of the MLS, Hernández returned to the field this Saturday in Chivas’ victory by 3-1 over the UNAM Pumas.
Hernández entered in the last seven minutes of the game and was greeted with enthusiasm by the fans who filled the stadium to witness his return after recovering from a knee injury.
Although he still does not feel in full condition to play as a starter, Chicharito is confident of improving his physical and football fitness with the minutes accumulated in the upcoming games.
“I’m not here for 90 minutes, that’s going to take time; It will depend on many factors, it can last much longer than we think or less,” the forward acknowledged.
In the match against the Pumas, Chivas’ goals were scored by Cade Cowell, Víctor Guzmán and Antonio Briseño, which allowed them to rise to seventh place in the Clausura tournament standings with 15 points.
Next Saturday, Guadalajara will visit the leader Cruz Azul on matchday 10 of the tournament and four days later they will play the first leg of the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup against América.
