The president and candidate for re-election for the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, urged voters to support him at the polls in the November elections to defeat Republican Donald Trump, whom he said “represents a threat to the future” of the country. .
The president, who was optimistic in his race against the Republican, reacted to the results of Saturday’s primaries in South Carolina, where Trump once again won against the Republican presidential candidate, Nikky Haley, in his state. birthplace and where she was governor.
“America believes in defending our democracy, fighting for our personal freedoms, and building an economy that gives everyone a fair chance,” the Democrat said.
He then called on Republicans, Democrats and independents “who share our commitment to our nation’s fundamental values” to join them.
“Every day, we are reminded of the threat that Trump represents to our future as Americans grapple with the damage he left,” he said, noting that the Republican “boasts” about being responsible for repealing the law that allowed abortion. for 50 years in the country.
He said that decision by the United States Supreme Court opened the door to banning abortion at six weeks, criminal penalties for doctors and, now, the denial of fertility treatments to families desperately trying to have children.
“We are still rebuilding the economy after Trump lost millions of well-paying jobs,” he said and also recalled the assault on the federal Capitol on January 6, 2021.
That day, thousands of people violently broke into the Congress building in Washington to try to prevent the ratification of Biden’s electoral victory, driven by false accusations of fraud leveled by Trump.
“In 2020, I ran for president because the very soul of America was at risk,” he said.
“Despite the threat that Trump represents, I will say again to the American people: I have never felt more optimistic about what we can do if we come together,” he reiterated.
