Croatian Luka Modric, scorer of this Sunday’s winning goal against Real Madrid, spoke with the microphones after obtaining the three points to give a boost to his former teammate and now rival in Sevilla, Sergio Ramos.
Modric commented that part of the difficulty of Real Madrid’s victory against Sevilla was due in part to the great defensive work done by Ramos, whom he described as a “great player.”
“Sergio Ramos is my friend, my brother. What to say about him. He is a great player. Even though everyone wants to age us, he continues to show that he is at a very high level. It was a joy to see him and he played a great game,” the midfielder told the Real Madrid TV cameras.
He later reviewed Ramos’ reunion with the Real Madrid fans and his return for the first time since he signed for Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu, after leaving the Merengue team in 2022.
“He is very happy and excited to return to the Bernabéu (Ramos), and the fans were happy to see him too. “Sergio is a legend, a great player in world football and, above all, in Real Madrid,” Modric added about the 2010 World Champion.
Finally, Modric also highlighted the bravery of Real Madrid to score a new goal in the last 10 minutes of the match and in the end it was worth maintaining the eight-point advantage over FC Barcelona in the lead in the Spanish LaLiga.
“We continue until the end. We never give up. We have shown it many times. “This is the Real Madrid gene and we have to continue like this, although we would like to fix it sooner, but sometimes it plays like this and it is a sweeter taste,” he concluded.
Despite having played 28 games this season with Real Madrid and more than 1,400 minutes of playing time, Modric’s goal against Sevilla was the first he has scored in the 2023-2024 season, to which he also added six assists.
