Finally, the mansion in Bel Air, California, that was custom built for basketball star Wilt Chamberlain has sold for $9.7 million. In recent years the property has been entering and leaving the market.
The seller of the property was Erik Voorhees, CEO of ShapeShift, who purchased this location in 2008 from George Meyer and Maria Semple.
The happy buyer is Erik Voorhees, a bitcoin pioneer who founded BitInstant in 2011. He currently owns other companies related to cryptocurrencies.
It should be noted that Voorhees attempted to sell this property on many occasions over the past few years. He initially expected to receive $19 million for the place, but the lack of interested parties caused his price to be lowered.
Before the sale took place, it was reported in September of last year that the place had entered the market for $10 million.
It is not known why it was so difficult to find a buyer, as it is a historic residence that was built from scratch for an NBA star. It should be said that Chamberlain bought the land on which the house stands for $150,000 and then invested more money in building a large house.
To design the property, the basketball player, who died on October 12, 1999, hired architect David Tenneson Rich. Currently the place remains the same as its original construction, although in 2008 it was renovated. Among the features that still remain is the front door that is 14 feet high and weighs a ton.
The main house has an area of 9,395 square feet distributed in five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, foyer, living room, great room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room and other amenities.
Outside there are green areas with a terrace, swimming pool, spa area, walkways, dining room, fireplace and other ideal spaces to rest and enjoy the outdoors.
