Nikki Haley, the Republican challenger who experienced a resounding defeat on Saturday in her stronghold of South Carolina, is not giving up. This Sunday, she renewed her call for supporters to fund her primary campaign until the crucial March 5, when more than 800 party delegates are up for grabs.
In a lengthy text message sent to his followers in the morning, he announced his trip to Michigan, the next state to hold primaries, and later he will prepare for Super Tuesday, the Efe news agency published.
“But for this I need your help to finance my battle. Can you send a generous donation today to help me pay for this next critical milestone?” said Nikki Haley.
He underscored the persistent “frustration” both in South Carolina and across the country and warned that America “will break” if Americans make “the wrong decisions.”
Shortly after, its marketing team put on sale a t-shirt with a very clear slogan: “No fear,” with the candidate’s name and the national flag on the sleeves.
“In America we have elections, not coronations,” Haley emphasized, referring to the voices asking her to abandon the race in the face of Donald Trump’s almost certain victory.
The final results in South Carolina awarded 47 delegates to Trump and only 3 to Haley, leaving a difference of 110 delegates to 20. Despite her deep roots in South Carolina, where she was born, raised and served as governor, the candidate failed capitalize on expected support.
The upcoming states show a more pro-Trump Republican electorate, leaving Haley in a challenging situation.
The businessman has lowered the tone of his usually aggressive speech and ignored his opponent, which has been interpreted as an attempt to appeal to moderates. With Haley’s candidacy in the background, attention is now focused on who will be the former president’s running mate, with many betting on a moderate profile that will mitigate the divisions that Trump has generated.
“I am a woman of my word”
Nikki Haley reaffirmed on Saturday her determination to continue in the race despite her resounding defeat to Donald Trump in the elections in South Carolina.
Despite the overwhelming difference in votes that separated her from the former president, she assured her followers that she will remain in the race, thus fulfilling her commitment to offer a valid alternative for Republican voters, the Efe news agency reported.
At a rally organized to celebrate his victory, although it was not the result he expected, he reiterated his commitment to the principles and values he represents. “I am a woman of my word. “I am not going to give up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” she said.
The former South Carolina governor also highlighted the importance of offering voters a real and diverse choice in the upcoming primary elections. “In the next few years, 21 states and territories will speak. They have the right to have real options, not a Soviet-style election with a single candidate. And it is my obligation to give them that option,” she added.
