Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell died at age 49 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his family said in a statement.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend.
For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of terrible challenges due to ALS. And in true Ken style, he managed to overcome each one with grace and commitment, to live a full and happy life in every moment. “He lived by the principles that every day is a gift and we never walk alone,” reads as part of an extensive message that was shared on Instagram by his loved ones.

Kenneth Mitchell gained fame for being part of projects such as “Star Trek: Discovery”, “Captain Marvel” and the series “Jericho”.
In the Marvel film, Mitchell played Joseph Danvers, Carol Danvers’ abusive father.
The actor is survived by his wife, Susan, and their two children, Lilah and Kallum. Through the statement, the family invited donations to support research that provides hope to people who are currently battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, because it is a disease of the nervous system that has no cure.
“The moment they told us it was ALS, it was like I was in my own movie,” Mitchell told People magazine in 2020. “That’s what I felt, like I was watching that scene where someone They say he has a terminal illness. “It was just complete disbelief, a shock.”
