Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling announced that they divorced after four years of marriage, in a legal process out of the spotlight.

“In light of recent stories, I feel I have no choice but to let everyone know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago,” the “Lights” singer wrote in an Instagram story.

“We remain closest friends and have successfully co-parented with our children’s best interests in mind (sic). We are committed to protecting our family’s privacy and thank people in advance for respecting our wishes; We will not comment further. Thank you,” she continued.

The couple who share a 2-year-old son also said they tried to keep the breakup private to protect the little one, but due to speculation they decided to make it public.

“I feel (sadly) that I need to say something about the current relationship between me and Ellie, which I hope more than anything will put any final tabloid speculation to rest. Ellie and I made the decision to separate some time ago.

Our immediate family and close friends have known this for some time; otherwise, we decided to do what we could to keep this private.

Ellie and I remain the closest friends and, most importantly, ‘co-parents’ to the best boy in the world, Arthur. This is the last thing I want to say about this and I ask that you respect my privacy and Ellie’s privacy,” Jopling asked.

The announcement comes after Goulding was seen alongside his Costa Rican surf instructor, Armando Pérez, in his home country this week. Meanwhile, Jopling was spotted without her wedding ring on a solo outing in London.

The couple married in August 2019 after getting engaged a year earlier.
